Which Safety Grants for Schools are Available?
School Safety and Security Grant Program (SSSG)
Created by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC), SSSG is an extension and modification of BWC’s general industry Safety Intervention Grants Program (see below). BWC uses the SSSG Program to partner with Ohio schools to substantially reduce or eliminate injuries or illnesses among school employees and students.
This program is available only to Ohio employers that operate licensed preschool through 12th-grade educational facilities. Eligible employers may receive up to $40,000 for each three-year eligibility cycle. Occasionally, safety grant funds are depleted before year-end. In those cases, we will hold applications until the next fiscal year.
Safety Intervention Grant (SIG)
With the Safety Intervention Grant, recipients are eligible for a 3-to-1 matching grant, up to a maximum grant award of $40,000 for each three-year eligibility cycle. This means BWC gives $3 for every $1 the employer contributes.

Either the SSSG or SIG programs can be used by school districts as a means to better prepare their facilities and organizations to protect the students in their care and their employees. Both grants can be used to directly impact security through a variety of means.
