Proud to Support Alliance First Responders: Stark County’s First Safe Haven Baby Box

ProTech Security is honored to have partnered with Alliance Central Fire Station on a deeply meaningful community project — the installation of Stark County’s first Safe Haven Baby Box. On October 20, 2025, community members gathered for a blessing ceremony marking this important milestone in protecting our region’s most vulnerable lives.

A Lifeline for Families in Crisis

Safe Haven Baby Box installations provide a safe, anonymous way for parents in crisis to surrender newborns to the care of first responders. When a baby is placed in the climate-controlled box, fire station personnel receive immediate notification, ensuring the infant receives prompt medical attention and care.

Across the country, these boxes have saved numerous lives by offering an alternative to unsafe abandonment. For families facing impossible circumstances, Safe Haven Baby Boxes provide hope and safety — giving both parent and child a chance at better outcomes during the most difficult moments.

ProTech Security was represented at the ceremony by Art Morrison, our Senior Director of Engineering. His work was instrumental in completing the project and providing a secure, safe option for parents in need and their children.

Technology in the Service of Life

ProTech Security installed the wireless cellular-based security system that makes this baby box operational. When a baby is placed inside, our system immediately triggers alerts to fire station personnel, ensuring rapid response when seconds matter most.

This installation required the same technical expertise ProTech brings to all our security solutions, but with an added layer of responsibility. System reliability isn’t just about protecting property — in this case, it’s about protecting precious lives and supporting first responders in their critical mission.

“Community safety isn’t just a job for him, it’s a calling, 40 years in the making,” said Art’s wife, Margie Colman Morrison. “Here’s to the people who make our world a little safer every day.”

A Community Milestone

The October 20 blessing ceremony marked a significant moment for Stark County. As the first Safe Haven Baby Box in the region, this installation demonstrates Alliance’s commitment to comprehensive community care and the fire station’s expanded role in protecting vulnerable populations.

For ProTech Security, this project exemplifies why we’ve remained deeply rooted in Northeast Ohio for over 40 years. Our relationship with local first responders goes beyond commercial transactions — it’s about supporting the essential work they do every single day.

“When I first learned about the Safe Haven Infant Surrender initiative, I was taken aback that such a need exists in our world today. The thought that a newborn might require a safe place to be surrendered was both emotional and deeply humbling. I knew immediately that we needed to help,” said ProTech Security President Eric McKimm.  “That’s why we chose to donate the electronic security equipment required for their next installation. It’s our hope that this contribution provides peace of mind, protection, and — most importantly — a safe option for the most vulnerable among us.”
